the nine steps of information processing.
Aquisition
- Input
- Validation
- Manipulation
- Storage
- Retieval
- Output
- Communication
- Archive or disposal
Aquisition
gathering information, using many different methods like observing, surveying, polling, filling in forms ETC.
Input
putting the information in to the computer, by typing, recording,ETC
Validation
validating information is very important, data mast be made sure it’s correct, timely, and relevant . Validation ensures that. things like spell check, reading over, double checking numbers ETC
Manipulation
Manipulating data is changing the orientation of text (left right centre) changing grouped numbers to charts ordering thing alphabetically, numerically.
Storage
saving data in a location to be retrieved later. Often it’s just a simple ctrl+s or File>save… depending on the operating system used.
Retrieval
opening a piece of data that’s been stored (saved) for further manipulation or output.
Output
displaying the data, that has been acquired, input, manipulated, stored and retrieve… possibly even archived via the computer screen, projector, sound system ETC
Communication
transferring the data elsewhere, like publishing on the Internet, or emailing.
Archive and disposal
archiving is putting the data away if it is no longer used everyday. schools archive away student rolls for several years for legal reasons. disposal is deleting that data forever.
